International Rodeo Saturday, 15 November 2008  [ 6.30pm - 10pm ]
It’s Back and it’s bigger than ever

Saddle up ladies and gentlemen because November 15th 2008 will once again see Christchurch’s Westpac Arena filled with Cowboys, Cowgirls, Bulls, Horses and some clowns.

Held as the finale to Canterbury’s Cup & Show Week the 2008 International Rodeo is shaping up to be bigger than ever before as. Cowboys from the USA, Canada, Brazil and Australia battle the Kiwis for rodeo domination.

The 2007 International Rodeo sold out in a matter of months and International Rodeo promoters say that the demand is greater than the amount of seats available. The 2007 event gained global interest with the TV production reaching over 300 million viewers world wide so this year the rodeo will be streamed live via the internet to over 9 different countries and millions of rodeo viewers.

The 2008 International Rodeo will feature four rodeo disciplines: bull ride, saddle bronc, bareback bronc, and an exciting cowgirl barrel racing challenge. The International Rodeo will also feature entertainment acts from New Zealand and Australia. as well as the Rodeo cheerleaders, International bull fighting champion, rodeo clowns and over 300kgs of LPG propelled pyrotechnics.

International Country and Western performer Brendan Dugan will perform live from a stage suspended from the roof of the Westpac Arena making the 2008 International Rodeo an attraction for the entire family and every age group.

Corporate hosting is another major part of the International Rodeo as companies can purchase tables seating 10 sitting ringside with full bar and food services catered by the Wrangler cowgirls.

Spectators will be on the edge of their seats when 39 of the worlds best cowboys and cowgirls gather in Christchurch during Cup & Show week for the biggest stand-off between Man and Beast ever staged in New Zealand.

Tickets are on sale at Ticketek from June 1st and spectators are urged to hurry as they aren’t expected to last long. Adults from $65 Children from $45. www.rodeogp.co.nz

Jane Zusters Wall Talking Saturday, 15 November 2008  [ 10 - 4pm ]
Jane Zusters was born in Christchurch and has been exhibiting throughout New Zealand since 1975. She studied painting at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts and graduated in 2003 with an MFA (First Class Honours) in photography from Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, Auckland. Her practice includes painting, photography, installation involving found objects and short-looped video pieces. In 2005 she returned to live and work in Christchurch after twenty years based at her studio house on Waiheke Island. Zusters is represented in major public collections in New Zealand.

Zusters’ work explores one of the central issues of our time; that uneasy ecological edge where natural worlds are threatened when human beings channel the whole eco system into themselves. She is especially passionate about endangered New Zealand birds and water issues and co-founded with Sally Hope (granddaughter of Mackenzie Country painter Esther Hope) artists for save our water whose art projects draw attention to water conservation.
