Timaru Wonderland Christmas Parade  Saturday, 6 December 2008  [ 3pm ]
This year we have chosen a theme to inspire you for your Christmas 2008 float. I can picture wonderful vibrant and colourful floats full of characters past and present. Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck could lead the way followed by Tinker bell with her beautiful fairy wings, Baloo swinging his way down Stafford Street singing "The Bare Necessities", Winnie the Pooh having fun with his very bouncy friend Tiger. Aladdin on his magic carpet and Cinderella trying on her glass slipper to the more recent such as Chronicles of Narnia, Toy Story, The Lion King, High School Musical and the list goes on.

Please join in by contacting the Timaru i-SITE for an entry form or go to www.southisland.org.nz to down load one and put a smile on all those childrens faces in South Canterbury.

We look forward to seeing all your fabulous floats and spectacular outfits in this year´s Wonderland Christmas Parade.

Solid Energy Ensemble of Southern Opera Spirit of  Thursday, 11 December 2008  [ 7.30pm ]
Following two successful tours taking in five destinations throughout the South Island (including near sell out concerts in St Mary’s Church in Timaru in May and the Ashburton Trust Event Centre in August), the Solid Energy Ensemble of Southern Opera will soon embark on their Christmas tour. This elite choral group consists of 16 carefully selected singers from the Christchurch region. For this tour, the group will appear, for the very first time, in Oamaru and Geraldine and back by popular demand in Christchurch.

The concert features a magnificent Christmas programme including well known opera choruses, solos and ensembles.Something for everyone. Presented by singers not only chosen for their voices but also for their dynamic personalities, these concerts bring together exceptional voices for an awe-inspiring performance.

The repertoire includes the stunning Hallelujah Chorus, a selection from Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, popular songs such as O Holy Night, Stille Nacht, Adeste Fideles (Oh Come all ye Faithful) and much more.

This is no ordinary Christmas Concert and is not to be missed.

“They amazed their upstanding Timaru crowd…., delectably fragrant potpourri of songs, each song was mastered perfectly. A first time opera-goer Saturday night’s performance moved me and left me in awe.” Rachel Comer, Timaru Herald, May 2008

“A packed house was treated to a delicious smorgasbord of opera favourites…The high quality harmonies and haunting solos delivered a triumph of quality.” Ashburton Guardian, August 2008

Tickets are $35
