| The Winchester camping Ground is run under the auspices of the Winchester Reserve Board and is located on State Highway One, 200m south of Winchester in the Central South Island. The camp is situated close to shops, hotel, restaurant and garage and the Waihi river. Open from Labour weekend to early May, the Camp offers 69 camp sites in a peaceful and tranquil park-like setting. Winchester is 25km north of Timaru, the major town in South Canterbury. Timaru is a popular visitor destination in the summer with the beach at Caroline Bay and the annual Caroline Bay Carnival which runs for 2 weeks from Boxing Day. The nearby township of Temuka, Pleasant Point and Geraldine offer opportunities for shopping, sightseeing, golfing, fishing, arts & crafts, viewing Maori rock art, heritage trails and historic tours. Mt Cook is only 2 hours drive away through beautiful scenic countryside. Facilities Showers, washrooms, toilets, laundry, kitchen and recreational hall. Recreational facilities include a cricket ground, children’s playground and tennis court. A swimming pool at the school nearby is available for use. The nearest golf course is 6km away at Temuka.
